    Thank you (and Stacey) for being such a supportive part of the Warrior Nun fandom. Without you as our dear Mother Superion the character would not be the same. I am grateful that your story of playing this amazing character related back to your own story of being a new mother. When Warrior Nun season one first released I was struggling a lot with depression with my son (almost 2yo at the time) and while the story of Jilian and Michael was incredibly hard to watch as a young mother, seeing Suzanne and the girls together was a huge encouragement to me. The way that you played that role and the love that Superion has for each of her wards is beautiful.

    I admire her struggle with forgiveness. One of the greatest things for me as Christian viewer of WN is that Suzanne chooses to forgive Vincent, even though it is hard. My heart soars at her admission because it's real. It's not letting him off easy, it's understanding the road to redemption is not forgetting. There are consequences for his behavior, despite her forgiveness. I wish more viewers understood the power of that moment! That the writer's didn't just kill him off to "punish him" is still a joyous shock to me.

    It is incredibly rare to see a show that talks about faith as beautifully as WN does. It doesn't mock it, it doesn't belittle it. It doesn't overly simplify it! Instead this show bridges the gap between the realities of being a believer and a fan of a secular show. It bridges the gap between a faith based home and LGBT+ family members. It opens up discussions. And it's not easy to walk out in faith when the world is so hurtful and complicated. But that's what I love about each of the characters. They all have their own struggle of faith and it's done without condemning them.

    Warrior Nun has helped heal something in me as a woman, as a mother and as a daughter. My mother was an alcoholic for more than half of my life following my father's death. In this show I get to see complicated, but beautiful relationships that are deep and genuine. From seeing Father Vincent and his interaction with the girls, to Mother Superion's own journey of healing from her own pain and stepping up to comfort those wards left in her care. Her ascendance out of postpartum depression to a more nurturing mother – because isn't that in some ways what losing the halo was? It was like a miscarriage. Something precious that she was chosen for, trained for, and yearned for and it was taken from her. She was still a mother, and she still had others to care for, but the shame she felt always wondering what she did wrong to lose that which was precious to her. She thought for years she was UNWORTHY. I work with clients who struggle with the path of infertility and my God... Mother Superion is all of us who have experienced the dagger that is sudden loss. In the end what saved her, what pulled her from that physical and emotional death, was simply LOVE.

    So Happy Birthday Mother and thank you for giving us such a beautiful Mother Superion. She truly is a treasure. And even if she and all the others are just characters in a show, they live on because we as fans carry them in our hearts.

    And of course, as a Mother and Father fan (and shipper) I deeply admire the work that you and Tristán put into your characters. Here's to hoping they get to kick ass together in a fight scene in the future.

  • Often in series or films it's the young actors who come to the fore. But what we often forget is that it's an ensemble, a collective. Thank you for your role as Mother Superion. I find your performance sensitive and nuanced. In the first season, you came across as a tough woman, but through your subtle acting, you gave us a glimpse of a woman who is more sensitive and fragile than she lets on. I really liked her evolution and the relationships she has with the sisters and Ava. Thank you for your talent and commitment.

To honor the upcoming birthday of Sylvia De Fanti, the multitalented actress who portrays Mother Superior in Warrior Nun, a donation drive for the MIT Trans Identity Movement and a special birthday project is happening to show our love and appreciation.

This donation drive was set at $1,000 and all proceeds will go to MIT Trans Identity Movement (Movimento Identità Trans) in honor of Sylvia’s birthday. as of publishing the #warriornun fandom has donated $1,250.

Disclaimer: This project is not directly affiliated to Sylvia De Fanti and her talent management agency, Stacey Castro Media, and is purely voluntary and initiated by the fans to celebrate her birthday.

“MIT (Movimento Identità Trans) is one of the most important associations of the Italian LGBTQ+ movement and certainly the oldest. Its official foundation dates back to the summer of 1979 when the protests of trans people became visible and after a few years, exactly on April 14, 1982, led to the approval of Law 164. 

At that time, MIT fought not only for trans identity to be recognized but also and above all for the rights and dignity of trans people to be respected: their right to safe and guaranteed transit, the possibility of self-determination and designing their own life.

In the initial phase that goes from its birth to the approval of Law 164, MIT (which at the time was called Movimento Italiano Transexuals) was present with offices in Turin, Milan, Florence and Rome. Subsequently to these are added those of Bologna and Treviso.

MIT organizes its own national congresses in 1987 in Milan, in 1988 in Treviso, in 1989 in Rome during which the future trends and projects are outlined.” 

“MIT provides protection of the mental, physical and social health of trans and it is aimed at both individuals and couples and families in need of psychological support through the MIT clinic.” As well as “harm reduction project for sex workers, carried out by an operational team made up of cultural mediators, peer educators, social workers and lawyers”. MIT also “promoting and defending the rights of LGBTI migrants who have chosen to live in our country. The service deals with social secretariat, assistance, counseling service, support and advice during the process of applying for international protection.” 

In conjunction with the fundraiser, we have set up a submission document for the fandom that will be featured on the warriornun.com website blog. Anyone can send a message to Sylvia and/or what her role as Mother Superion in Warrior Nun means to them. We welcome any appropriate messages, fanart and/or video submissions. 

Then on August 10, 2023, The OCS Newsletter will publish a special birthday edition. It will include some of the fandom’s submissions along with this fundraiser. Even if you can’t donate, please submit a message!


Sylvia De Fanti has been an active cheerleader and supporter in our #WarriorNun campaign. Let’s show our appreciation and love by supporting a cause important to her.
