The Fallen Angel: An OCS Newsletter Special

In the beginning…

Usually, every good story starts with a strong beginning. Every great story continues with an plot that’s full of possibilities. And very fantastic story ends with an unforgettable end. Usually...

Our story, however, started on a different note. It began with a strong end and built up from there till it started an unforgettable movement.

On December 13th of 2022 we collectively saw a sunset.

On December 13th of 2022 we saw people from all around the world gathering to mourn a premature end of a story that could never die.

 On December 13th of 2022 we saw strangers becoming allies fighting for a common goal, to save a story that we would never let die.

And on December 14th of 2022, we began.

For six months, two weeks and one day we took inspiration in the story of an orphan girl who becomes the unthinkable savior to many and we hoped against hope to rewrite an end as a new beginning.

On June 28th of 2023, we collectively saw a sunrise.

On June 28th of 2023 we saw people from all around the world gathering to celebrate a new dawn of a story that could never die.

On June 28th of 2023, we saw allies turned friends celebrating their victory of having saved a story that we would never let die.

And on October 6th of 2023, we had to begin again…

…The story continues…

In order to obtain some insight into the fandom‘s feelings and perceptions, the OCS Newsletter team asked a couple of questions to some fans regarding everything that happened up to this point. All interviews are available on our blog.

OCS: What were your thoughts when you first heard about the movie trilogy?

Bea_the_badass: Honestly I couldn’t believe it. We had fought for what felt like forever, and we got Warrior Nun back!

Princington: Initially, it was the best news ever. I thought all of our efforts had really gotten through and we managed to find a way to finish Warrior Nun's story.

Giulswannacry: I was over the moon. I could see it all: red carpets, going to the cinema with my friends, seeing proper healthy queer representation on the big screen.

 

OCS: What were your thoughts on the “big announcement” being the New Halo Art Contest?

Dchn_elise: It felt like everything we did was for nothing. Like nothing the past months had mattered. But the campaign felt like it had just been for them to make more money, and that it hadn't been for our story all along.

Noooooo_te: I was disappointed, and I think almost everyone was. At that point, I think the whole ordeal smelled fishy.

Mawica78: I was so mad! I felt hurt, we didn't deserve to be played like that

 

OCS: What do you think were the effects of the lack of news to the fandom?

Ilikewarriornun: An absolute disaster! Unfortunately, this is the reason a lot of people have left the fandom. It became a Trojan Horse that weakened our movement.

LisaIsOnTwitta: Oh it was bad. I think it pissed me off even more towards the people who had fooled us. But, somehow, we managed to find something positive about it! I'm thinking about Mr. Krabs with his bell and Ham's daily counting

JamesThompsonKS: The prolonged silence regarding Warrior Nun and the trilogy announcement stirred a deep sense of anger and resentment within the fandom, including me. It felt as though those who genuinely cared about the show were being taken advantage of.

…Endless Possibilities…

OCS: The vast majority of the fandom feels deceived and used with the way things were presented to us, some would even say they‘re happy new that the trilogy probably won‘t happen since it was never going to be the Warrior Nun we fought for. Is there anything you‘d like to say to the fandom after all of this time?

 

Dean English: In light of recent drama surrounding the investigation at PMI and its effect on the future of Warrior Nun, I wanted to say a few words.

I have been working on Warrior Nun for over ten years now, and in spite of all the usual ups and downs that will always affect the movie industry, it has been my experience that this is the one project that keeps on going no matter how many hurdles it encounters. Instead, each time things seem hopeless, it keeps coming back in new iterations, always better, more relevant, more sophisticated than the last version, showing us how badly these stories need telling.

The Warrior Nun family started with just two people. Amazingly it has grown to millions of people worldwide. To all of you so deeply invested in this universe, I need to apologize for some of the things that have happened over the last few years. So much of this has been due to nonsense behind the scenes, things that I'm not at liberty to share with you, but I know that there have been a lot of hurt feelings and expectations that feel cast aside. Most of you may not know (and perhaps not care) but I share many of these hurt feelings. Dreams come crashing down, and the suspension of this person we trusted has been a significant blow. [Editor‘s note: According to The Hollywood Reporter - Film finance and production company Productivity Media Inc. has suspended its CEO amid a probe over allegations of financial mismanagement]

But when I look at Warrior Nun as a ten-year event, I realize that neither Netflix nor any other company, and not even Avatrice, are the beginning or the end. They are one incredible story we have loved to tell in this world. But while we may or may not be able to continue on their specific journey, there are many similar stories this universe has to offer.

There have been some really dark moments along the way, but I have always had faith to keep pushing ahead. There is always something deep down that demands we keep going. I hope you will come to feel that same hope I do.

I look forward to reconnecting with you all for the next step of this journey.

And an unforgettable… New beginning

The Ultimate Warrior Nun Collaboration is a multimedia, fan-led project to write and illustrate a graphic novel, it's our own version of Warrior Nun Season 3. We have more than 30 participants with different ages, more than 10 native languages, and are actively collaborating across 15 time zones.

This project started in December 2023 and many people joined at that time. At first, most of the work was organizing all the participants and setting a work schedule (also a Code of Conduct). Most of it was carried out behind the scenes by the coordinators. It was really challenging and a lot of work to do because we started from scratch.

Nearly a year later, with ups and downs, we are still working collaboratively (we’ve never stopped) creating and deciding on a story that would do justice to our beloved show…it takes a long time! Particularly with taking a democratic approach to the creative process—all while ensuring the highest quality storytelling.

All things considered and with most of the story direction decided (by vote), The Warrior Nun Ultimate Collab is relaunching during October 2024 marking the beginning of the most exciting part of this creative journey: the writing process!!
